GEMS – Project Management

Essential Science Skills

Project management skills can mean the difference between success and failure. Poor project management compromises the quality of a project’s conduct, its outcomes and outputs, reduces impact and reflects poorly on the scientist. Project management skills will help scientists improve their ability to meet milestones, avoid risks and issues and improve access to opportunities, including additional funding.

Management of a research program means investing in ideas that align to strategic goals and managing investments to deliver value. If you’re involved in the management of a research program, you need to oversee investments to ensure value is delivered for stakeholders, expectations and failures are managed, and ensure ideas being funded align to strategic goals. A main part of your role is understanding which scientific proposals are those that will provide value and opportunities, without creating enormous administrative burden.

Sativus offers a variety of workshops, bootcamps and online resources to give people the skills to effectively manage science projects and programs.
